Helmsley Mansion Sells for $35 Million
Leona Helmsley's former property in back-country Greenwich, Dunellen Hall, sold today for $35 million dollar. The 14 bedroom, 13.4 bath, 21,897 s.f house has indoor and outdoor pools and sits on 40 acres of land. The property was bought in the name of a trust and has been under contract since August 28th.
One of the original great estates of Greenwich, the property had shrunken greatly over the years. Leona restored much of the grandeur of the property by purchasing an additional land and removing the house closest to Dunellen Hall. The house has had a series of illustrative owners including the former owner of the NY Yankees, Dan Topping, who negotiated Joe DiMaggio"s contract there.
With this contract the over $20 million dollar price range continues to be busy. This year Mel Gibson's place sold for $24 million and a property on John Street sold to Tommy Hilfiger sold for $31.375 million, leaving only 8 houses in the over $20MM market, one in Conyers Farm, two on the water front in Belle Haven, one in mid-country and the rest in the Round Hill area where Dunellen Hall is located.
